Hey check it out! Did you know that the smallest frog in North America is the Little Grass Frog? Well it's true! The Little Grass Frog is surprisingly no bigger than a horsefly. It's 11-19 millimeters or 0.5 of an inch. It is part of a group called the Chorus Frogs. Chorus Frogs are usually more seen than heard. But when it is mating season, the Little Grass Frog will chirp and chirp until its little (Really little!) heart's content! The sound that The Little Grass Frog makes sounds a whole lot like a small parakeet and a huge cricket chirping together in a very noisy chorus! Or like one of those wooden frogs (The ones that look nothing like frogs AT ALL!) that you bang a small wooden stick against or slide it down the "frog's" back to get that chirping-clicking-banging sound. The Little Grass Frog is so, so, so, so, so, so, so tiny that it can perch on a small blade of grass and hover above a brook, calling to its mate. Its slick skin is a gold, brown, tan sort of color. They have a small black stripe under their eye and it is lined with two white strips. In a few of these pictures you can see that the Little Grass Frog is so, so, so unbelievably tiny next to a penny, a ruler, and a few other objects that will make you say "Wow! Look at the size of that thing! It is sooo tiny!" That's what I said when I first saw its picture!
